Exposure Data

I have always been interested in this guy, for a lot of reasons. First of all, I had always had this idea that went with his calvin and hobbes tattoo, because of why he got it. For me, why he got it, and who he makes himself out to be are two very different things. He seems like a very complex character in my eyes, letting on less than there is, never admitting this of course. He lives quite an open, care free life style, but from knowing him I know this is not all he is, and what I like to try with my portraits is to bring this out and show it to people, people who know him, people who dont. Im rambling. anyway, onto framing. the tattoos are obviously a focus here, I tried to use them, along with him not having a shirt (that part sort of reflects the character he shows all the time, the not wearing a shirt part). And as is with most of my portraits, I try to blur the background out through use of changing contrast with filters while printing, or with a wide aperture and have a shallow depth of field. I want to draw the viewers attention straight to the subject in most cases. I think thats it.

Critique

Basically what I want to know most is if you think the fact that the photograph sort of fades into the border is a bad thing, whether the back is too over exposed and such, and I suppose whether you think I have effectively brought out any sort of feeling in this photograph. oh, and is that black dot behind his head annoying, and shout I edit it out in the dark room?

Looks interesting. I personally would try and dodge the black spot...kinda makes the portrait more focused on it, and less on the spot.
About the back, i cannot make up my mind...It looks a little not"proffesional" cause its overexposed, but this adds a little thought to it... maybe he has another tatoo over there...;) Anyway, my thoughts:D

i really like this shot, although i find it too overexposed on the background. i suppose it may look better without a background so burnt. Good job anyway! :)

My suggestion is to do the same print but leave it in the developer longer to really bring out those blacks. it seems alittle flat to me. I agree with you that you may try to take out the black dot behind his head, but who knows. Interesting capture.

this is neat! nice framing. everything comes together. the tattoos, the face. just that the black spot near the neck is unnecessary ;)
