Film Collective's FAQ

What is Film Collective about?
Film Collective is a brand new DA group that emphasis the unlimited possibilities within the world of film photography. Here we will share film photography in all angles, technical changes, and point of view. Film Collective is always a great place to gather information from other members about film and the uses of cameras. Most importantly, Film Collective is not a showcase, it's a learning group. To learn with one another is a great way to see first hand experience of other photographer’s progress and achievements.

How do I join?
Send us a note, stating you wish to join Film Collective. Please put 'Join' in the subject line. Add us to your watch and we'll do the same to officalize you to the group.

What is the submission process?
Film Submission Guidelines:

To better help the artist receive a well thought out critique on his/her work, these guidelines will give the viewer a better understanding of what the artists was trying to achieve, what they want in a critique, and the technical data helping the viewer better understand the process. This could be a long process, but is paramount in helping both the artist and the viewer.

All submissions should be emailed to dAfilmcollective@gmail.com.

With the submission please include the following information, please note the more information you provide, the better we as a group can handle your critique and help you as a photographer. Please also included title of piece and what category

You can copy/paste this selection and provide the data available:

Username

Technical Data

(camera make/lens make)
(Film format/film used/filters used) You can choose to include developer here as well*
(Paper/Printing process used, if store processed leave blank)
(Lighting condition/time of day)
(Exposure data, if available)

Exposure Data

(here is where you explain the frame, what exactly you wanted, how you shot, what you shot, the more information you provide the better.)

Critique

(here you will let us know what you want critiqued about your frame, may it be a lighting question, a composition question, or anything that has to do with the frame itself, if you have printing problems, film questions, ask here, make sure it relates to this specific frame.)

And that is all the information needed to submit to FilmCollective.

Use of Forum
Please do not create any new threads. Let the staff of FC create the threads.
The forum will be used to share information about types of film and brands of cameras. Each brand of camera will have its own thread. Film will have multiple threads for the all major brands. If you wish to see another thread added, please note the group.

just two things:
1) the example is not that visible..i got Mozilla Firefox..maybe depending on the browser..the written text is not so readable.
2) the pics submitted can allow manipulation? neither a small manipulation?

thanks in advance.

I'll see what I can do about the example given, not sure whats up with that link, cause I used a standard font, but I'll have a look!

And yes it can be manipulated, just be sure to put that in your description, if you want to learn, and you've manipulated it, let everyone know so they can better help you.

Do you allow submissions that are scans of negatives, rather than darkroom prints?

--
i like my body when it is with your
body. It is so quite a new thing.
Muscles better and nerves more.
:iconfilmcollective:
certainly
most of my pieces are scanned using the negatives.

:iconzawadzki:
can someone please explain to me what a scan of a negative is and how you do it? what are the differences between a scan and darkroom? :)
:iconfilmcollective:
scan of a negative is when you scan the film negative. you can get a scanner that does film negatives. or have the place where you may get your film processed. I use a HP Scanjet scanner and it has an adaptor to do film negatives and slides.

darkroom scan would be the print that you made.
i just say print scan myself. But not all print scans are ones you made yourself.

I hope this helped you out some more. I"m sure others will put in their important and try to explain it better then I.
